Empowering the most vulnerable

At Inherit Your Rights we are committed to helping the most vulnerable access justice and address inequalities through the education, empowerment and representation of women.

Initially, we began working with widows in Tanzania who faced losing their property and inheritance after the death of their husband. Today, we work with all women but with a particular focus on the most disadvantage groups who are in need of legal assistance and empowerment through education.

Recently we worked with one of our partners that provides a safe home for girls forced into sex trafficking. These girls have gone through severe trauma and gross abuses to their human rights. However, despite this, the girls were eager to learn about their rights and the channels to protect them. The girls had many questions and even with the terrible circumstances around their attendance, there was a sense of hope that they would ensure they wouldn’t let other girls have the same fate.

Through education and legal aid, our aim is to empower women and girls so they will in turn:

  • Pass on their knowledge about women's legal rights to others in their communities

  • Stand up for their own rights and for the rights of others

  • Mobilise their communities for equality and justice.
